  Random Poem Generator, 1998

Original Computer Program which generates sentences.
Projected Light Work designed for The Old County Court, Wolverhampton, U.K.

Commissioned in 1998, the work was made and currently exists as an interactive program. The sale of the host building in 1999, resulted in this work remaining unrealised as an exterior light sculpture.

The pediment is a ‘holding bay’ for letters. Selected letters move downwards over the upper pillars, where they are ‘unscrambled’ into recognisable words. Assembled words slide down over the pedestals, forming sentences on the central frieze. The grammatical relationship of the words is restricted to the rules of English, but the specific words are chosen at random by the program.
